There’s plenty of nice holiday destinations, spin a globe, chuck a dart at it and bam, you’ve got a nice safe place to go, because chances are you hit an ocean. However, there are a few places out there that are essentially the murder capitals of the world, and as such, should be avoided because there’s no fun times to be had when you’re dead.
The Mexico Citizens Council for Public Security has decided that it should put the rest of the planet off visiting Latin America after it released stats that showed that most of the worst cities in the world are located there.
The MCCPS used UN data to find the most dangerous cities. In this instance dangerous cities are measured by Homicides per 100,000 people. For the sake of sanity the list doesn’t include warzones, however a lot of these places may as well be warzones by the looks of Google Images.
If you were wondering what actually made these following places get so bad the UN data summarises that the cause is a large amount of drug trafficking, gang wars, political instability, corruption and poverty which is to blame. To be honest it’s a little difficult to distinguish what’s a symptom and what’s a cause.
10 MOST DANGEROUS CITIES
1. CARACAS, VENEZUELA – 119.87
It’s the world capital for homicides, just look at it. Who’s even surprised. Maybe if everyone didn’t have keep building houses on top of each other people wouldn’t get so grumpy.
2. SAN PEDRO SULA, HONDURAS – 111.03
Apparently it’s so easy to find gangs around here media crews swarm them for comments about what they think about Kim K’s new look.
3. SAN SALVADOR, EL SALVADOR – 108.54
San Salvador comes in at #3, but I have no idea, I mean when you have babes like this strutting around at the CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championships there should be world peace.
4. ACAPULCO, MEXICO – 104.73
This is about the best view you’re going to get of this place, don’t be tricked, every single one of the little people in this picture are getting mugged.
5. MATURIN, VENEZUELA – 86.45
At #5 Maturin is the first place to be under 100 homicides per 100,000. One of the latest news reports coming from the area was when the entire venezuelan football team got held up and had all their shoes stolen from them. That’s quite a haul!
